Diet in Islam…

Alhamdulillah, we all love food, and we all love to eat. But really is this the right attitude to have? Yes, food is a blessing from ALLAH and it tastes wonderfully and there is so much variety, but ALLAH makes it clear in the Quran He dislikes those who are excessive, and that goes for us being excessive with food consumption. Not only are we guided to eat only halal and tayeb food we are guided to eat without indulging. We are guided to drink not excessively and things that are good for us (🖐Starbucks addict unfortunately). Even in our breathing, we don’t do enough. I learned in yoga the importance of breathing and realize most of us just gulp air but we are guided to let 1/3 of our tummy be air. That means breathe more and be conscious of it because every inhale and exhale is also a blessing from Allah.
Tomorrow I will sit at Iftar and look at the food ALLAH blessed us with, the provisions we have each and everyday that others around world don’t and say Alhamdallah.

We all need to eat to survive, no one is denying that. However, we need a lot less then we think we need. And we also need to be very conscious of what we are eating and drinking and even our breathing.

Fasting in Ramadan, doesn’t mean less food it means eat your food with meaning. Let’s not indulge into consumer traditions (yep I am guilty of food coma every year). Ask yourself this during Ramadan: Are you still able to function? Do you feel better because of fasting? I know for myself after years of doctors telling me not to fast due to my Lupus, high blood pressure, and pancreas issues (told I was diabetic but actually was not) that when I decided to take small steps im fasting. Now, I am able to fast and survived! Research shows intermittent fasting heals your body and reboots it! I can function and I feel a whole lot better when I fast. In fact, research says doing fasting couple days a week is great for the body (for those who can). Well, we know that our Prophet recommended Mondays and Thursdays to fast regulary besides Ramadan. Every year I wake up more and more. I just wanted to share my Ramadan journey and thoughts with you because it’s a significant Ramadan for me.

Laugh more. Move around. Love alot. God bless!

Blackseed vent!

😡Somebody please explain to me when I open my Instagram timeline… It’s flooded with 100s of posts from foodie accounts of non-Muslim brothers and sisters using Black Seed every fricking meal! Open “our” timeline and what do you see honestly…even our healthy personalities.😵 Only time you see people using Black Seed is close to Ramadhan or Umm Flan who is over 50 years old! 😞People who are not believers in the faith, believe in it and use it more than us. Science has revealed its nutritional benefits recently but Islam revealed its worldly and spiritual benefits over 1500 years ago! 😤So why aren’t you using it and posting about it!? Why aren’t healthy restaurants using them in Q8?! Too busy posting about products, knowledge, and ingredients min barra! Fine, do that but celebrate what we have at home too! What we have to offer as far as knowledge. I see trendy yoga peeps sending me ancient Indian remedies. Cool! Learn and diversify. BUT DON’T FORGET THE KNOWLEDGE WE HAVE RIGHT HERE IN OUR OWN HISTORY. SHOW THE OTHER SIDE OF US TOO! THE WORLD IS PLAGUED WITH GENERALIZATIONS ABOUT ISLAM. The simplest way to counteract that is not standing on Islamic soapbox but simply sharing with the world the healing practices, the kind gestures, the ingredients favored in Islamic medicine and give credit where it is do. 😁just a smile is charity remember?! Ok vent over!

I am not a chef!

Alot of people always ask why I don’t put self-taught chef on my description or when I talk about myself. The fact of the matter is I’m not self self-taught, I’ve been taught by hundreds of people my whole life starting off from my father. I have been learning cooking my whole life and even when I travel I take classes from locals in every country that I visit. I learned from my mother-in-law, Umm Othman, God bless her the sweetest woman that I know, has taught me so much about Middle Eastern cuisine. So no I’m not a self-taught chef and I don’t have a degree and I can’t plate pretty or make fancy meals so I don’t call myself a chef. I have total respect and admiration for real chefs and could never think to pretend to be one! I am just an individual who loves food and and I’m confident enough in the kitchen with skills and knowledge of ingredients that I can put a meal together. I’m someone that wants to feed good meals to my family especially in a society now where almost everybody’s got some kind of illness or obesity problem. I love food! I love spices! I love the ingredients that God has given us and are surrounding us. I am fascinated that in every country there’s different versions of the same kind of ingredients that give you different results in flavor and texture. I’ve learned a lot of techniques along the way on my journey, I have a lot of real chef friends and I am just like an open book I want to learn and record everything from them. So by no means am I self-taught at all and I stand firm by that! I’m not ashamed of that, I’m just somebody whose confident in the kitchen and loves it and shares that experience with all of you!

Miracle Honey

Many of you have experienced using turmeric as a spice, for preparation of the widely known golden milk, or as a strong supplement found in healthy food stores. Did you know that our turmeric combined with honey and blackseed combined becomes an invaluable natural remedy?! Turmeric has strong anti-inflammatory properties, destroys bacteria that cause diseases and promotes the body’s natural defenses. Blackseed was reported from Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) to cure everything but death. Honey was also mentioned in the Quran of its healing benefits. So Infusions KW put them all together!

Unlike synthetic antibiotics found in the pharmacy, turmeric has no negative effects on the intestinal micro flora. The use of our Turmeric Blackseed Honey improves digestion and increases the beneficial flora activity in the gut. It is traditional natural remedy, antioxidant with anti-inflammatory and anti-carcinogenic properties.

Don’t throw those strings away from fresh corn!

Do you often throw away the string-like fibers from the end of corns when buy fresh corn? Well don’t! These fibers, also known as corn silk, can be made into a tea that comes with a variety of health benefits.

Corn silk tea is also a wonderful home remedy for kidney problems. It is highly effective in treating conditions including painful urination, urinary tract infection, bladder infection, inflammation of the urinary system, and kidney stones.

Corn silk tea is great for people with high blood pressure. It helps in reducing the levels of blood sugar by increasing insulin levels in the body. It is also an excellent natural treatment for congestive heart failure, diabetes, high cholesterol.

Making corn silk tea is easy.

Boil 1 tablespoon of corn silk (chopped) in 1 cup of water. Once it is done, cover the pan and allow it to steep for 15 to 20 minutes. When it is cool enough to drink, you can add 1 teaspoon of our popular honey.

If you do a batch send me a pic! Have a great weekend.

Taste the Rainbow

Taste the rainbow. What do I mean? No, not the pack of juicy Skittles candy that we all secretly love even at our age! 😋 I am just reminding myself (and my readers), to make simple adjustment to eat MORE real food daily and you will see difference in your gut health, skin, hair, moods, sleep, headaches etc. If you do this for 30 days, your body will crave the fresh fruit and vegetables and not the over processed crap. Pringles tastes like cardboard now to me. I never thought i would see one my kids eat raw sliced bell peppers (red, green, yellow) for a snack! They beg for fruits when we go grocery shopping! They used to beg for Nutella, Doritos, McVites, all kinds of cookies, well you get the picture. Honestly, change can happen if you try! Parents stay strong and change for your home will come! Eat well. Play Alot. Live long. Take care of yourself and others. Xoxo Patty
